Centennial Planned – September 2007 through June 2008

The theme of this celebration is Honoring our past -- Celebrating our present -- Planning our Future. Many wonderful events will be held to support the following goals: Zachor remembering our first hundred years, celebrating our Simcha, and acknowledging the greater community through service Tikkun Olam.

One would never guess that TBJ will turn 100 in September based on the energetic ideas that are coming forth to celebrate this milestone.  The May meeting found the Centennial Committee in spirited discussion over ways to commemorate 100 years in Concord by giving back to the community.

Laura Kaitz reported that CAP, has several on-going community projects, which need our assistance. As an ongoing contribution to the residents of Concord, we will recommend to the Board that TBJ accept responsibility for putting together and installing wheelchair ramps at the homes of those referred by CAP, who need this accommodation.

In addition, the committee is continuing to seek suggestions for a more permanent community project to mark our centennial. Please contact Laura Kaitz with your ideas.

In other news:

The committee discussed our desire to include former rabbis in our celebration. Each will receive a formal invitation to the dinner dance as well as an open invitation to attend any of the events on the Centennial calendar.

TBJ’s centennial committee has been hard at work planning events to commemorate 100 years of TBJ. The events will begin in September 2007 and conclude in June 2008. The planning of some activities is more definite than others, but we want to let you know what’s coming so that you can start to save dates.

At press time, we have two exciting events confirmed and ready to go. First, we will create a community art project. Led by fiber artist Nancy Katz, interested TBJ members will design and create works of fabric art to beautify our sanctuary.

The process will be as important as the product as we work together to create art for our own synagogue. Nancy Katz is a very dynamic person, with abundant experience in community art. You won’t want to miss this one! (This project is being funded through the Berman Jewish Arts Fund, generously supported by a bequest from Mitzi Berman.)
